I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Management Sciences in the
Faculty of Engineering at the University of Waterloo, cross-appointed in the School of Computer Science.
From November 2009 until May 2010 I was on sabbatical leave in Cambridge, England, as a Visiting Researcher at Microsoft Research Cambridge and a Visiting Fellow at Clare Hall, University of Cambridge.
I conduct research in Information Retrieval, Natural Language Processing and Computational Linguistics. My current research interests include entity retrieval, identification of semantic relations between entities in text, targeted opinion retrieval, interactive and automatic query expansion, the use of multi-word units and word co-occurrences in information retrieval.
I teach courses on Database Management Systems, Information Systems Analysis and Design, and Human-Computer Interaction.
